Santiago Munez joined Newcastle United in the Summer of 2004, following an initial spell in the USA. Being a Mexican immigrant, Munez was relatively unknown when he was given his first team opportunity.

Munez went on to play for Tottenham Hotspur and Real Madrid, where he helped the Galacticos win the 2014 Champions League in a campaign which involved a humiliating 7-0 victory against Barcelona.

Munez wasn't without his controversies however, including:

Lying to Newcastle club doctor about his asthma
Drunken nights out with Gavin Harris
